Lots of learning in P3A!

Last week we wrote our autobiographies. We had to include capital letters, full stops, neat writing and facts about ourselves.

Over the past two weeks we have been learning ‘sh’, ‘ch’, ‘th’ and ‘ng’ words. We took chalk outside to practise writing our words and adding extra words to our lists. We played a ‘guess the word’ game on the IWB.

In Numeracy, we took our estimating and measure outside to find the distance around the playground. This week we estimated and measured things in our baskets. We used a ruler to measure in centimetres. We had to remember to start at 0. We have also been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10. Some of us have tried to the nearest 100 and 1000!

In Number Talks, we are trying to use different strategies to solve addition problems. We are learning to partition numbers, use skip counting on an empty number line and friendly numbers which help us make 10.

Last week we made Mood Monsters! They will help us share our feelings. We drew pictures of monsters for each mood and use a bead to show how we feel. We have been learning to identify different emotions and feelings. We have started learning about EmotionWorks. It helps us to understand emotions, why we have them and think about the triggers for our emotions.

We have been reading in class using reading books and enjoying our library books this week. We are exploring different authors and illustrators. We like spotting our spelling pattern as we read!

Miss Wattie has been helping us learn about being healthy. We have talked about being active, getting enough sleep and how to be safe with medicines. Outside we have been learning football skills and how best to use our feet to control the ball.

Today we celebrated ‘Roald Dahl Day’! First of all we watched a presentation about him. We did a True or False quiz about him. After that we made story cubes to share what we knew about him or what we knew about his books and characters. Our novel is George’s Marvellous Medicine. Our most interesting facts about Roald Dahl was that he was a fighter pilot in World War Two, his parents are Norwegian and he was born in Wales.

We hope you enjoyed our update! Have a lovely weekend!
