P1/2 Update

What an exciting week we’ve had in P1/2! Our week started off with a letter from our very own class elf called Elfie. He is our ‘Kindness Elf’ who is always watching to ensure we are following the class rules and being kind to others. He helped Miss Edwards make a kindness advent calendar, which encourages us to do something kind each day. We love reading and replying to Elfie’s letters daily in our free time. We are beginning to incorporate Christmas into our activities which we are finding very fun! We have a Christmas tuff tray where we can create Christmas scenes with characters and objects. We also decorated our own decorations to put on the Christmas tree. We will be able to take these home at the end of term!

In phonics, P1 have been learning ‘o’ and ‘u’, and P2 were learning about words with ‘y’ at the end. We have taken part in lots of lovely informal writing when writing to the elf which has been great to see! We continued with our formal writing, which involves writing a letter. We have also been practising our tricky words.

In maths, we have all been taking part in Number Talks to think about bigger numbers. So far, we are comfortable thinking of many ways to find the answer to an addition sum or thinking of different strategies to make a number up to 20. However, today we were learning about place value and partitioning, by splitting a big number into hundreds, tens and ones. We did this really well so hopefully this will allow us to use bigger numbers in our Number Talks next week!

In between all these busy jobs, we saw Aladdin at the pantomime and P2 did a great job with their dress rehearsal this afternoon which the P1s were lucky enough to watch. We can’t wait to share it with our families next week!

We hope you enjoy our photos!
