Apologies for a belated update from last week – we had a very busy week! Last week we took part in lots of Bonfire Night activities in our play. We had a fireworks tuff tray where we practised our sounds and numbers. We made fireworks pictures with oil pastels and paint then wrote about these using adjectives. We read a story about staying safe on Bonfire Night and completed some reflective reading tasks based on this.
In phonics, P1 were learning ‘e’ and ‘h’. We read ‘Elmer the Elephant’ and took part in lots of activities based on the sounds. P2 were learning to use ‘ff’ in words, and in grammar P2 were discovering when to use ‘a’ or ‘an’ before words. We learned that we use ‘an’ before a vowel, and ‘a’ before a consonant! P1/2 all had a go at singing our ‘tricky word song’.
In maths, we were counting in twos and chose our challenges. Some of us were comfortable counting in twos to 20, some to 30, and some to 100! We also introduced time this term. P1 were looking at o’clock and half past, while P2 were recapping this and learning quarter past.
Our role play corner has had a revamp, with a display sign for the children to change as they decide what the role play will be that day. Our display sign last week was a ‘Song Studio’, as we added a guitar to the mix! We loved performing. We had singers, pianists, drummers and guitarists. We then got to watch the school talent show, and two of our brave P2s were in the final! Maybe our Song Studio will inspire more of us to audition next year!
