Hello from P6A

Welcome to P6A’s first post.

We have been exceptionally busy and we would like to update you on what we have been learning and working on in class.

Our term started brilliantly with football coaching sessions with Claire from AFC’s Redstart. She has taught us skills, teamwork and nutrition. We still have two sessions this term and have enjoyed seeing her every week.

In Big Writing we started a mission to learn about endangered animals. The focus is orangutans however other animals such as rhinos have been part of our learning. We will be working towards making a persuasive radio broadcast to share the plight of the orangutan.

To brighten our classroom we have undertaken some collective art projects in the form of quarter circles- we each had one quarter circle to design in any way we wished and we put them together to form a quilt effect. We drew portraits of ourselves and tried to include as many of our hobbies and likes as we could. We have completed portraits for the school calendar too.

We had a high number of people from our class who interviewed for the roles of Vice Captains. We had two successful candidates for Dunottar and Slains. Well done girls.

We celebrated Roald Dahl Day by working in pairs to share what we enjoy about his stories and facts that we researched. We presented our information to the class.

We are lucky enough to enjoy Mrs Cruickshank working with small groups every week. She has been helping us revise greetings and numbers etc… We play games of bingo and have conversations together.

This term has brought several competitions. We have had the Interhouse Dodgeball competition, Maths Art Challenge from Miss Baldacci, The Superhero Reading Challenge and a competition to design the School Calendar cover for the DSPC fundraiser.

Our biggest project as part of our Heroes theme is our research for R.M.E. IN groups we research key information about five different religions: Judaism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and Hinduism. We have created models and  posters to display our research.

In Maths we have been learning about place value. We have been reading and building numbers, rounding and ordering numbers and multiplying by 10/100 and even trying 1000.

Next week we will begin our new research into our own personal heroes.

We’ll be back again next week. Have a great weekend.
